Darlene Chan oversees the west coast production of projects which involve corporate sponsors such as JVC, Playboy, Verizon and The L.A. Philharmonic. She and her staff have produced TV projects, all-star tribute concerts and many US tours.
Darlene Chan began her career as a student at UC Berkeley where she produced the first three UC Jazz Festivals. After graduation, she worked as an advisor to the Associated Students event production department as well as an assistant to the late noted music critic and author Ralph J. Gleason.
A veteran with Festival Productions Inc. since 1969, she began her tenure as a road manager and has worked in various capacities, including line producer for the Playboy Jazz Festival, Jazz At The Bowl, the Verizon Music Festival and other major events throughout the world. She also is the talent buyer for the above as well as The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival.
Darlene has also been active through the years in television production. She was producer of the award-winning CBS Cable Special, "Count Basie At Carnegie Hall." She was a segment producer for the Sammy Davis Show, the Nancy Wilson Show and casting director for the Richard Pryor specials and the John Ritter special. She has also been involved in the annual JVC Newport Jazz television special on PBS.
Darlene has received the Founder's Award from the Los Angeles Jazz Society for her contributions to jazz community. She has also served on the grants panel for the California Arts Council, is active as a consultant for various non-profit organizations and is on the Board of Trustees for Crossroads School for the Arts and Sciences in Santa Monica.
